Review : Pyaar Mein Padipoyaane – Predictable Romantic Comedy

Aadi and Shanvi have teamed up for the romantic comedy ‘Pyaar Mein Padipoyaane’. The film has been directed by Ravi Chavali and K. Radhamohan has produced it. Aadi and Shanvi scored a hit with ‘Lovely’ and they are hoping for a repeat of this success. Can they do it? This is our review of the film, so read on to find out.

Story:

Chandra (played by Aadi) is a wannabe singer. He and his group of friends form a music band and they call it ‘Crazy’. Chandra comes across a girl named Yuktha (played by Shanvi) in his college and he falls in love with her. Yuktha is an aspiring singer and she bonds with Chandra.

Together, they set about creating a music album and as you might have already guessed by now, they also fall in love. Now every love story will have its own share of speed breakers and in this case, Chandra’s childhood pranks come back to haunt him.

As it so happens, Chandra and Yuktha are childhood buddies. But Chandra steals something which is very dear to Yuktha and she starts hating him from then on. Chandra discovers that the hatred is present even after all these years.

What can Chandra do now? Can he tell Yuktha that he is her childhood friend? How will Yuktha react? That is what this film is all about.

Highlights :

- Sapthagiri steals the show as painter Hussain Varma. He has only 10 minutes of screen time, but he completely changes the graph of the second half. The same can be said about Thagubothu Ramesh, who also makes a brief cameo appearance.

- The second half of this movie is much better, when compared to the first half. The second half is also a lot more engaging, with comedy and good emotional moments.

- Aadi and Shanvi are ok in this film and they share good chemistry. Aadi’s dances are good.

Weak Areas :

- The first half of this film is very boring and predictable, with a routine story line and very old world screenplay.

- Aadi needs to relax during emotional scenes as he has a tendency to become very stiff.

- The movie has too many songs, especially in the first half. This kills the tempo of the film and these abrupt breaks never really let viewers connect to the love story.

- Vennela Kishore’s sequences are irritating to say the least and it is time TFI changes its approach towards gay comedy.

The finer things :

Surender Reddy’s cinematography is a big asset for the movie and the visuals have a very vibrant feel. Anoop Rubens has given good music for the movie but even good things become unbearable in excess and that is what happened here.

Ravi Chavali has tried to use a safe commercial formula for this film but he has succeeded only partially. Unnecessary scenes in the first half and a very stale screenplay spoil his efforts.

Verdict :

‘Pyaar Mein Padipoyaane’ is a very predictable and stale romantic comedy. There is nothing fresh about the treatment of the characters or about the writing. Sapthagiri and Thagubothu Ramesh bring about a few laughs but they are not enough to salvage the movie.

Critic’s Rating – 2.75 /5

Box Office Potential – High
